Spring Recreational League


Newton Girls Softball is committed to the development of athletic capability and sportsmanship by focusing on teaching the fundamentals of softball in an environment that supports ALL skill sets.  We foster positive self-esteem, team spirit and individual growth through personal achievement and as a team member.

Registration is open to all girls in grades 1 - 10 who live in Newton or attend a Newton Public School.

2012 Registration Dates

  • 11/11/11:  Registration Opens
  • 1/31/12:  Deadline to register without paying a late fee
  • 2/29/12:  Deadline to register with guaranteed placement, pair-me-with rights, and a $15 late fee.
  • 2/29/12:  Last day to withdraw and receive a full refund. Sorty, no refunds after this date.
  • 3/1/12 - 4/15/-12:  Placed on the wait list, no pair-me-with rights, and a $15 late fee.  Openings filled on a first come, first served basis.  Every effort is made to place all interested players on a team.  If teams are completely filled, a refund will be issued (including the late fee).

2012 Season Dates

  • 4/29/12:  Opening Day
  • 6/16/12:  Grade 3/4 & Grade 5/6 All Star games
  • 6/17/12:  Final Game.
  • 8:00 am Monday, June 11, 2012:  Newton Girls Softball 6th Annual Golf Tournament.
Game Day Schedule
  • Grade 1/2:  Tuesdays @ 5:45pm & Sundays @ 1:00pm.
  • Grade 3/4:  Thursdays @ 5:45 pm & Sundays @ 3:00 pm.
  • Grade 5/6:  Wednesdays @ 5:45pm & Sundays @ 5:00pm.
  • Grade 7-10:  Fridays @ 5:45pm & Sundays @ 5:00pm.
  • All Grades: Saturday afternoon is reserved for games that need to be rescheduled due to poor weather conditions.

Practice Schedule

Practice day(s) are selected by the coach after consulting with their team to determine which day(s) present the fewest conflicts.  All teams will practice at least once per week.  Teams in the older grades are encouraged to practice twice per week.

Attendance

Softball is a team sport and part of being a good teammate is attendance, therefore we expect players to attend at least 75% of the games and practices. If you are considering another activity that also requires your attendance on one of your game days, please be fair to yourself and others by selecting only one of activity this spring.

Playing Field Locations

NGSoftball uses local softball fields, all located in Newton.  Team schedules with field location will be posted on your grade division pager just prior to the start of the season.

Clinics

Pre-season player clinics are held on Saturday afternoons in April for all registered NGSoftball players.  Players work on their skills and get a chance to meet their teammates.  This has proven a popular way to get the league started when field conditions are questionable.  Players and coaches are encouraged to attend. Enrolled players will receive a reminder email from the league.  ALL CLINICS ARE OPTIONAL.

Beginner, intermediate, and advanced pitching clinics are held on Sunday evenings at the Newton YMCA during the fall, winter and early spring.
